HIPAA is a word,or acronym,or eponym,or synonym,or?
It is an acronym because it takes the first letters of each word in this Health Legislation and creates a list of initials that people use as a word which substitutes for the actual title:
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.
Any “word” that is a list of initials representing a longer title is an Acronym… like TGIF means “Thank God It’s Friday.”
