i am being harassed by a woman! WHAT SHOULD I DO? LEGALLY WHAT CAN I DO?
My friends grandmother has been harassing me because she thinks my friend is living with me. she has been calling me for the past three days and leaving me nasty voice mails. She has clearly stated in voicemails that she has received confidential medical info about my mother and i. she also said that her attorney obtained the info, but it would be a violation of of hipaa law?? she also has threatened to sue and has been insulting and very ignorant.. what should i do? what can i do? is a sueing possibe
the information she has is accurate theres no way possible to know that
i have voicemails of her sayin all my personal business and i dont know how she got that information if its supposed to be confidential
They’re right, she probably does not have the medical info. You can go to court and get an Order for Protection or a Restraining Order against her and whoever else for yourself and whoever you need. Usually family courts make this really easy to do since it is such a common problem.
You can search online for your county or township court and there should be info there on how to go about it. You’ll want to look for Family Court within your district court.
If she ever threatens you physical harm or comes on your property, that would be time to call the cops. It would also be best to start keeping records of what she is saying to you. Find out if it is legal in your state to record phone conversations–if it is, you can go to a Radio Shack or any electronics store for phone recording devices. They are pretty cheap–don’t get a digital recorder though, because that is not always admissible in court because digital copies are easy to edit after the fact.
Hope this helps! Good luck!
