Is this a HIPAA violation? Should I report it?
My daughter’s fiancee works for a mental health organization as a Compliance Officer. He checks the counselor’s notes about the patient to make sure procedure is being followed. Several times he told me that he brought home files so he would not get behind. Though I knew this was wrong and told him so, I did not report this. I let my feeling for him and my daughter cloud my judgment. I now feel that I should report this to HIPAA. Is this a reportable matter? I certainly know that I would feel violated if someone had my medical records in the back of their car.
Make the report to the medical society.
