Is it a HIPAA violation to contact a former patient?
I am actually a paramedic and would like to follow up on a former patient of mine through facebook. I am not sure if it would be a privacy violation or something.
No it is not really a HIPAA violation. depending on why you want to contact them. If it is just an email on facebook thats fine. just explain you were the paramedic on duty when you helped them and you were wondering how they were doing. obviously you get their name address and phone number if possible but taking that outside of the station is a violation. try to keep it professional.
