does hipaa affect the patient’s access to his/her medical records?
if so, describe the affect and the procedure for obtaining access
It does affect your ability to obtain your own records in some cases. You may have to sign papers and show ID proving you are who you are. For example, I work at a Fire Department and in order for patients to get the records of calls they were involved in, they have to sign a request sheet and show valid ID when they pick them up.
