emergency room hipaa
When a patient present to the emergency room, what crimes must be reported to the police ?.?
Some facilities states due to new hipaa rules only gunshot wounds and stabbings. The hipaa officer states we can’t report rapes and aggravated assaults ( fists).
When a patient is brought into a hospital, and they state they were a victim of a crime, the Police should be notified. Even the possibility that the person may be an offender due to injuries. Failure to do so could be considered obstruction of justice.
