Employee Hipaa Violations
employee hipaa violations
Is this a HIPAA violation?
I work for a company that works with HIPAA information. The company demands that employees leave their computers unlocked during their shifts. The company is located downtown an elevator anyone can access.
Is this a violation?
Can anybody access the HIPAA information on the computers or are those databases/files password protected?
Regardless the simple fact that your computer is unlocked doesn’t automatically make a HIPAA violation. In a hospital or nursing home it’s possible for any employee (or visitor) to just walk up to the nursing station and pick up a chart if they feel like it. The other employees would stop them before they did anything and it should be the same at any sane workplace.
