HIPAA and providing personal medical information to employer upon request?
My employer is shopping for new health insurance. They have asked the employees to fill out a form which asks questions about your medical history. We do not know who this information is going to be provided to, and my office does not know how to keep information to themselves regardless of the information provided being private or otherwise. Do I have to fill this out and if I do not, how should I approach it with my employer?
The questions asked are things like are you pregnant, have any illnesses, AIDS, heart conditions, medications, etc.
Your employer is allowed to ask “certain questions” regarding your health. However,certain questions he is not. My advice would be to bring up HIPAA on the net,copy and study it.A change in companies should not affect your coverage as regards to previously existing conditions,etc. You are wise to be cautious.
