When you are sick and have a doctor’s excuse, can an employer require you to state what your illness is?
From my understanding, Protected Health Information “PHI” and the HIPAA laws do not apply to employers. Is this correct?
Ok, what I’m looking for is can an employer require you, legally, to state your exact nature of any illness. Not one that is communicable? Anyone who knows anything regarding the HIPAA laws and any laws regarding PHI “Protected Health Information”.
Only if it is communicable. Otherwise, no.
