pharmacists violating hippa?
I discussed with a doctor treatment for an illness for his patient. the doctor asked what other medications they were on. I told him, and he went back and told the patients mother. the patient is over 20. my company is telling me i violated hipaa because i discussed this with the doctor. I only told the doctor the meds she was on, so nothing would interact with the medication already being prescibed by ANOTHER doctor. My company says i violated hipaa. I didnt discuss this with anyone else but the doctor. Is this a hipaa viloation and grounds for dismissal. Also the law they are supposedly talking about exists no where in federal hipaa laws!
You know how they go too far to enforce laws. If that patient had died from a drug interaction, you would have been liable for that, too.
It seems to me that from what you’ve written, the doctor is the one in violation of the HIPPA act, not you. You discussed it with a medical professional; the doctor told the patient’s mother.
