is it legal for a lawyer to ask his client to sign a authorization to disclose u.s. federal confidentiality law called health insurance portability and accountability act of 1996 (hipaa)? please include web site address. thank you.
I am not sure if you are being asked to sign that you have received the form, or to being asked to wave the HIPAA law.
In either case, if you live in a major metropolitan area, call the local lawyer referral service. They can usually refer you to a lawyer who willl give you 20 minutes of his time free.
I have furnished a link of the HIPPA law that is in layman’s terms.
