Is there any way to get around the Hipaa law?
This morning I went to see my family doctor. My serious live in boyfriend came with me to the appointment but was told that he couldn’t come in the room with me because of Hipaa and privacy issues. Even after giving consent to my doctor he was still not permitted to come with me. Is there any way for him to attend doctor’s appointments with me before we’re married? And even with my consent can they refuse to let him in?

you waived that right by your verbal consent; he could have had you sign a release; I have never heard of such craziness; HIPPA is to the protect the release of information to 3rd parties; for instance to your attorney; you would have to sign a release to the atty to obtain your medical records; this doctor is nuts or hiding something ; you gave permission ; that should be sufficient; it isn’t his records that HIPPA protects but rather your medical information. He may be afraid of malpractice if there is a witness there ; but this is the strangest thing that I have heard out of a doctor’s office. It is true about age , if you are a legal adult , no problem
