Hipaa violation???????
My county recorded a medical document at the recorders office. Is this a violation of my medical privacy? It has a diagnosis listed. I have found out they have distributed the info to the county assistance. I think that the billing of the matter is definitely their right to know, but what I was treated for, labs, personal info? I never gave any one any authorization to do this. If it is against hipaa, what should I do?
You say you never gave them authorization. I would double check with the doctor’s office on this. At my doctor’s office, I have to sign a form once a year that authorizes them to release my information for certain reasons (insurance, medical studies, etc.). It does not give them permission to release it to anyone they want, though.
