In California, do I have the right to get my lab results from a hospital before they are sent to the doctor?
I regularly go to a local hospital for lab tests which my doctor has ordered. Normally, I sign a release form and they give them to me instantly. Now they are telling me that they cannot do this until a doctor has first seen them? Or they say I can go to medical records and get them. However, medical records have normal business hours while the lab is open 24 hours so this does not work for me given my work schedule. My understanding is the HIPAA gives me the right to get my records without restrictions.
Normaly the lab is not permited by law to tell you your results. Though a lab may know what it says the must have an MD liscence to interpret them.
