Is it a violation HIPAA to take a patient photo and attach it to the pts chart via our computer charting?
I work in a dental office in IN. The staff is at odds wether or not it is legal. We take a pt photo and attach it to the chart. We have two moniters in every operatory. One for pt viewing one for staff. All pt info is available for viewing. When a pts chart is pulled up their photo appears, the thought is it helps us know our pts when we pull them back. We can always click off. We don’t give them on option at this point. We pull out the intraoral camera and click away. Is this a violation of the pts right to privacy?
Im a medical assistant and we have pt photos of our allergy pts… it should be fine as long as it stays in the pts chart and is only viewed by staff
