My company is a small hosted phone system provider. Our clients host their IP phone systems in out data center instead of investing in on site equipment.
One of our clients is a doctors office and wants us to write a code that will allow his system to call patients to remind them of their appointments. the only data that would be in our system is the phone number and date/time of their appointment. What hipaa issues would be involved if any, how can i mitigate them and if possible were can i find some “english” information about this topic.
My best understanding is that as long as we do our best to ensure the patience privacy we are all set and as we don’t have any particulars in our database we are covered.
HIPPA has soo many moving parts, I would be shaky to say that an outsourced auto dialer system would be compliant. HIPPA has plenty of documentation so it has to be spelled out somewhere, and you would just have to do the research.
