Can an employer require an employee to provide a list of his prescription medications?
Would this be a violation of civil rights? Or of HIPAA?
No, because your employment is voluntary. If they require this to work there and you want to work there, you need to comply or you choose to work elsewhere. It doesn’t violate your civil rights to tell your employer what medications you’re on. What ever gave you that idea? HIPAA has nothing to do with telling your employer things that pertain to your job either.
Most places should not require an actual list of medications, just a notification from a physician that your medications will not interfere with your job performance. It depends though on the type of workplace and what your job entails.
