Hipaa laws concerning the work place?

When a doctors excuse is needed for missing work, is it necessary for the immediate supervisor to see it? I recently missed a day of work to get some blood testing done, in which it was found that I tested positive for ASO tither. Rhumadic fever. I was told I needed a work excuse and I provided the excuse to the Human Resource manager. When asked by my supervisor I told him I had given it to HR to put in my file. I was repremanded for not giving it straight to him and going to the HR manager. Don’t know if there is a law saying I have to give it to him or if it is OK to give it to the HR department since that is what they are in charge of. I told him he could see the excuse in my file if the HR manager gave him the OK, apparently that was unacceptable and according to him I am wrong.

AN excuse is not a release of confidential information. Not covered by HIPPA as such IMHO

It’s up to them who requires it.
