Is it a hipaa violation for patient account information to be faxed or taken out of the office?
The doctors office that I work in has a consultant that comes in once a month to help get our office running better, when she is not here and at other doctors offices she asks us to fax her patient account information at the other offices. She also runs patient account reports and takes them with her when she leaves the office and travels. She as also let other receptionists take patient account information home with them to work on entering it the computer. I do not feel comfortable faxing this information to other physcian offices or with the fact that she carries this information around with her while she travels. Would you consider this a Hipaa violation
Yes,it’s a privacy violation
