does this violate hipaa?
I work in the medical field traveling to different nursing sites. I came upon an elderly lady who when learning where I work produced a picture and asked if I knew this person. I told her I did and I used to work with her.
Iupon returning to the hospital I work at I said to a co-worker. “I ran into so and so’s grandmother (lets just call her Trudy…not real name), shes SOOO nice”.
Word got back to “Trudy” that I had said I ran into her grandmother. She’s trying to say I violated hipaa.
But I never said Where, how, when or why I ran into her grandmother. They only assume it was in the course of my duties. For all they know it was at a gas station. Only “Trudy” knows her grandmother is in a nursing home.
I want to know if I did anything wrong in-case this woman tries to go higher up with it (she doesn’t like me)
