my personal info has been lost by my employer when it was suppose to be locked away its in iowa what can i do?
i just recently started a new job and had to fill out information for insurance coverage and such. In this folder of information it included my name ssn dob my bank account number as well as some of my sons information. We were supposed to place this information in a locked draw over the weekend so it wouldn’t get stolen and when i went back today my folder and information is missing. Is this a privacy or hipaa breach on part of my employer for carelessly handling my information and if so what can i legally do about it?
You’re not going to be on the job for long if you start legal action against a new employer.
If the folder doesn’t show up in another day or two, you could file a police report, and also contact the credit report bureaus to put a fraud alert on your information. The Federal Trade Commission has a good website on identity theft info and steps to take. Links below.
