Can my Dr. legally verify with my professor whether or not I was seen due to Hipaa?
The privacy act states that all information that labels an individual and patient records are private. Does this also apply to appointments? It seems that even simply stating whether someone was there or not is a violation of privacy.
My professor wants to verify my dr’s note with my dr. This seems like a violation of my privacy, especially since it was a personal visit. Can my dr. verify the legitimacy of a note or even verify whether I was seen or not?
HIPA gives you the choice, it doesn’t prevent the patient from doing anything. He will need to have your permission however, and will probably need some kind of documentation to cover himself before doing so.
