Hipaa regulations? I work at an Insurance Agency….?
We have a customer log-in sheet near the front office to record customers and what they need. We had a customer come in the other day and say it is illegal for us to do that based on the Hippa regulation. She said we aren’t allowed to display the previous customer’s names and information for others to see. Is that accurate? Does that apply to us or is that just for medical settings?
Thank you!
HIPAA regulates Personally Identifiable Health Information. It was determined by the Health and Human Services agency that sign-in sheets are acceptable if they require only name, appt time and doctor. Any other information obtained should be private. HIPAA only applies if you are an agency that typically falls under HIPAA regulation, such as health insurance agency.
You can buy sign in sheets that have individual stickers, so that each person signs in on a sticker, which is then peeled off and place on another form of your choice that is kept private. These sheets are very cost efficient and may be a good solution for you.
