Can you share that your patient died if you knew them under HIPAA?

I have looked everywhere and can’t find the answer. Someone may look at this and think the answer is completely simple but I can’t see that it is. By knowing I mean knowing personally in the everyday life because I will be working in the ER. Death becomes public knowledge but nonetheless healthcare workers are not supposed to share information. I wouldn’t share how they died just that they died with a loved one and of course I wouldn’t do this until I found out the official answer. I just figured I’d try to find someone on here with the answer so I could go in with some info to try and not look completely uninformed when I ask a coworker. I have already looked at all the links on google so just personal experience as a nurse or nurses aid or something of the sort would be great. Thanks so much!
