What happens to a hospital that violates HIPAA regulations?

(long story short) My mother went into the hospital to get her medications straightened out aka phyc ward. She is a wonderful woman who has been through A LOT, just recently got out of an emotionally abusive marriage, suffers from depression, and is trying to start over. While she is in the hospital she has a list of 5 people (specific names) )who are aloud to visit. While she is in the hospital, a nosy lady from her work LIES to the hospital, THE HOSPITAL LETS THE LADY IN, and the lady stops in to see my mom. My mom is very upset that they let her in. The lady goes to my moms work and spills everything she knows. IS THIS NOT A HIPAA VIOLATION?! What do we do to fight this? what will be the most realistic outcome?
Okay, so it is not a HIPAA violation. Is there any way we can contact her employer and do something about this?

the hospital did not say anything or give out any information so they violated nothing.
your problem is with the visitor who also did not violate HIPAA.
it appears the visitors list was not adhered to or was never given to reception, not a crime nor any violation simply a mistake an unfortunate one but just a mistake
