I’m trying to get health insurance for my daughter….?

she used to be on the medicaid (Lachip) but apparently I make 200.00 over the limit so she doesn’t qualify for that anymore. My question is I’m trying to find her some insurance and she is overweight but other wise very healthy only going to doctors for colds and such. The doctors don’t seem to be concerned about her weight. I filed for a plan but I’m afraid they won’t accept her because of her weight. I really need insurance because I don’t want her to go without any and she wants to play sports which would help with her weight issue but she can’t play if I don’t have insurance to cover injuries. I did purchase the “school” insurance but my concern is if something happens after school. So my question is if a person had coverage previously and it’s not over the “63″ days can they still deny coverage? or do they have to pick her up because of HIPAA. My other opinion is to let her live with my parents in order to get back on LaChip. Please help

For a private policy, YES, they can deny coverage. That whole 63 day stuff is for HIPAA – which is for GROUP policies, not individual policies. But wait and see, you might be worrying about nothing. If the DOCTORS aren’t worried about her weight, she might not be as overweight as you think she is.

You CAN get 24/7/365 accident coverage through the school program – there are two options, school time only, and 24/7/365. But it’s ONLY accident coverage, NOT medical. Check with the school, to see if that school time includes extra curricular, school sponsored sports. I bet it does.
