Can a Doctor Talk to the Police?
Just hypothetically speaking, I’m wondering if this is part of the HIPAA Act or something else, where a doctor can’t report you to the police.
For example, if I shot myself with my own gun which is not a legal weapon, and I went to a doctor, would I have to answer to the police?
Again, this is strictly hypothetical lol.
So I got it for gunshot wounds, but what if the doctor was treating you for an overdose on crack?
No, a Dr cannot report you for a crack overdose. There are certain things they have to report, such as the gunshot, or suspected abuse, but most things are confidential. Otherwise, no one would get medical help.
