Does my doctor have to change incorrect records?
I know through HIPAA I have the right to access my records, but what happens when one finds incorrect information? I recently received the last few months of records while I was undergoing cancer treatment. I asked to look at them because I felt like my oncologist was not listening to what I was saying during the visits. Upon reading the records, my suspicions were confirmed. There were many instances in my progress notes when the doctor incorrectly recorded what I was saying about certain symptoms, to the point of writing the opposite of what I said. Is there any law or HIPAA regulation that may be helpful in my quest to get the correct information in to my records?
my health providers are always double checking my records; at least as far as meds i,m using/ not using/ allergies, etc.
