In the state of Alabama, can I sue over HIPAA violations?
When you leave my doctors offfice, they give you a printout with all of your information, name, address, phone, etc. It also lists all of your prescriptions, when to take them and why you are taking them. Yesterday they gave me someone elses, which means someone got mine!! I don’t have aids or anything, but I don’t want someone knowing all my personal business! Can I sue in the state of Alabama over my HIPAA rights being violated? If so, can I get much money out of it? I don’t have any money to pay an attorney up front to represent me. This has gotten me all upset, please help.
Why didn’t you confront the lady at the front desk and tell her that you got the wrong sheet. You can always talk to an attorney about this – the first visit is usually free to see if you indeed have a case / leg to stand on.
