Does HIPAA prevent social groups from forming at work?
I would like to form a social group for parents with special needs children at my job. Does HIPAA prevent that. This social group would be voluntary and people participating would not have to share anything if they did not want to. The group would focus not on the childs issues but on what therapies worked, dealings with schools, and insurance companies etc etc.
This would not violate the HIPAA act because the participants are voluntarily giving information about their own children. They can censor what they want to disclose and participate as much as they want to.
