How do I find out what medical insurance my 82-yr-old father has?
Specifically, if he has Medicare Part D. I’ve asked him and he has no idea what he has, and squawks because I ask the question. Will his PCP’s office tell me if he hasn’t signed his HIPAA form to release his medical information to anyone?
It sounds like you need to get him to sign a form that gives you permission to follow his health issues. Otherwise, hospitals and doctors cannot help you in any way. My dad died of lung cancer and I had no idea, because his doctor would tell me nothing. You can call Medicare office and tell them the problem and they possibly can help. He squaks because he is afraid of getting old, losing his independence and dying. My dad even yelled if I got him the wrong hamburger. They mean nothing by it. Dad insisted I was only after his money, so I drove him to a lawyer and got a trust. Best thing I ever did. Took care of everything at the end, with no fights, etc. Yes, the PCP office can tell you what papers have been signed, and possibly help you with what needs to be done. But do it now…and make sure his will is made. My brother just died without a will, and what a mess. Much money and time on those left behind.
