found checks and billing statments?
I have found alot of checks and billing statements from my spouses’ former employer. She was in charge of billing at the practice. Aside from the possibility of some kind of theft scheme is it a HIPAA violation to have the patients names, addresses, etc? Is there a statute of limitations on the time passed? The material is from ’07 ’08 mostly.
There are 2 possible crimes here – she has other people’s confidential information and she has company documents. There is also the possibility that she was involved in some sort of fraud though you should be able to tell if her spending was much greater than her income. You have 2 options, take them back to the practice or destroy them.
