Hipaa Laws clarification?
I work at a pharmacy. I work at the front desk by the door answering the phone. I would like to know if the HIPAA law would prevent me from writing down called in prescriptions from a caller and taking it back to the pharmacy. They have the option to type it in on the phone or talk directly to the pharmacy but most are lazy and don’t want to wait. Seems to me like it is a violation of the privacy law to take down a prescription in a different part of the store and then take it back to the pharmacy. I would greatly appreciate having this straightened out and to get a clear answer.
You would not be releasing any private information so it would not be a violation and the pharmacist has to know.~
