Is this HIPAA Violation?
Is it a HIPAA Violation if costumers personal information including all the medications he’s taking, how many and when he takes it was given to his wife who works for a store where the pharmacy is located (she does not work in the pharmacy) and they are divorced.
If she’s divorced then she’s not his wife. Personal Health Information is protected from this sort of disclosure, but it isn’t clear what (if any) penalties there may be for vioations. Contact local HHS office to see how to start a complaint.
