Once someone raise concern about patient’s privacy, congress addressed this issue by adding privacy and security part of HIPAA. Within privacy, all covered entities are required to safeguard patient information. It also give patients right to:
1. Request to access their medical record
2. Request to make correction of their record
3. Request to put restriction of who can access their record
4. Request to have other means of communication btw health provider and patient.
5 Right to make complaint to the Fed (Department of Health and Human Services)
These requirement impacts all Healthcare providers, healthcare clearing houses (billers), and health plans.
