My doctor gave personal medical information of mine to a relative who is also a patient of hers.?
Is this a HIPAA violation? What action can I take? I have had some problems with them before but always kept my mouth shut. This was very personal info this doctor (or, actually, a PA as it turns out) regarding a drug screen. I was able to explain why drugs not prescribed by her were in my system, they were given to me by a doctor I was seeing as a GP when I lived in another state a year ago, and even offered to have him contact her office. She then decides to discuss the results with my grandmother about what prescription drugs I may or may not be taking. There is no telling who else may know. I have dont absolutely nothing wrong and things are awkward with my family now. By the way, I am not a minor, I am 25, and live on my own.
What do I do?
If you are wanting to change doctors that would be one thing you can do and if as you say the person is a PA then you can file a complaint with the doctor she assists and move on.~
