Is anyone else SICK of HIPAA regulations?
I work in research at a cancer hospital. I fully understand the point of patient confidentiality etc and I agree such a system should be in place, but HIPAA takes it WAY too far. You can’t even take a blood sample without a full protocol written out and approved. Even after you get a blood sample, you can’t extract the DNA or RNA from it without A PROTOCOL. They assign LONG numbers to patients instead of just giving initials because we may have nothing better to do than try to figure out who they are. What is the deal with HIPAA? Why are there so many regulations. The paperwork takes longer than the experiments take. Anyone?
HIPAA is a good thing too. Such as keeping medical info from employers to avoid discrimination. So it’s good and bad
