What Do I do if my HIPAA rights were violated?
A nurse at my now EX-Doctor’s office became Irate with me when I asked about misc. charges on my billing statement. I told her that I would just talk to the doctor because I did not appriciate her yelling at my in front of other patients. She said,” I don’t appriciate you saying anything negative about the doctor or billing, this office has treated your (began listing my conditions) and has helped you get (began listing my specialists) and I have 9 people sitting right out there with you who has heard the truth and could back me up. I said you are violating me privacy rights. Her response was ” I did not violate anything and I have 9 patients to back me on that too”
It was very unprofessional of her. Doc needs to have a few words with her at the least!
She may very well have violated HIPPA by disclosing your diagnosis/treatments to the entire waiting room.
