Would this violate HIPAA law?
Alright say an emt has a patient and deals with them normally. after everything is done the emt’s buddy asked what he had. the emt says to his buddy that he had a patient with a heart attack but was stupid enough to deny transport until he passed out and later died. Im just wondering if you can talk about calls as long as you dont give up any personal information.
As already mentioned HIPAA deal primarily with electronic information. However, that does not mean the state can not set its privacy laws higher and more specific such as in California.
And yes, even if you provide enough information to where that patient can be identified even without a name or SS#, you could be in violation of your state’s privacy laws.
But, calls are discussed all the time as long as where the call was from or some other detail that might link the scenario to an actual patient is not in detail and the call can be used for training purposes such as for a critique.
