As beneficiary to a life insurance policy with an accidental death claim can anything tie up the processing of?
I am the beneficiary of a life insurance policy purchased by my fiance who passed away in a car wreck recently. Two policies were purchased by her naming me as the beneficiary but the agent is telling me they can’t be processed until an executor or heir signs a Hipaa release and if no one will then the claim cannot be processed. This does not seem fair or correct. Can anyone tell me what to do?
Since it is an accidental death claim it sounds like they are just trying to verify that she died in a manner that makes the benefit payable. In order to do that they will need to access her medical records. Since you guys aren’t married they will probably go to her parents to get the Hippa release signed unless she had a will naming you her executor. As long as everything checks out with the investigation you will eventually get the money. It may just take a while depending on how cooperative her parents and the medical facilities are.
