How To Start a Medical Record Filing Business?
I want to start a Medical Records Filing Business. I am not familiar witht the rules and laws. I know HIPAA is a big part of the rules and regulations of such a business. I know I have to get a business license. However, I am not sure if there is even a special license required, for keeping personal and confidential information. I just want to be pointed to the right direction. Thank you in advance.
If you are not familiar with teh laws and regulations (especially HIPAA), then even before starting your business, you need to check with your local medical association and community college and see if there are any classes offered in your area. Just so you know, if you violate HIPAA’s regulations, it can mean large fines and jail time.
Before starting out, contact a few of the local doctor’s offices and see if they would even be interested in this service. I am not sure that doctor’s offices would want their records filed off site and with the push to electronic medical records, physical files may become a thing of the past real soon.
