HIPAA Violation – What can I do for this to STOP?
I applied for health insurance last week and was declined. I followed up with the head of the general agency where the policy was sold and asked him to look into why I was declined. He called me back in about 30 min. and started READING TO ME MY MIB – All of my personal medical information over the past 5 years. I called again to see if he could forward me the information he received, but he told me that he got it from the regional manager for the company. I thought that my private information should stay within the company and see the underwriters eyes only. Now to people that I barely know have ALL of my medical records. I dont know where they are or who else has seen them. What can I do to make sure that my records arent getting into the hands of the wrong person? Should I contact and attorney?
These guys clearly are not in the “chain.” They are agents that represent the writing company. My information should not have been passed on to them.
