Minor Hipaa

Hipaa and minor children?

In another question a responder indicated that Hipaa prevents doctors from discussing too much of their children’s health with the parent

is the person who said that just an idiot or is that true

i know there are exceptions for sexual health, but prior to hipaa docs were required to inform parents
In most cases, the minor CANNOT consent to care.

I went to an ophthalmologist when I was 16–and paid for it myself, but he still had to contact my parents.

It also depends on the situation and state laws. For example, some states may classify minors as under 18, others may say under 17. And if for instance, there was a rape involved, the minor would not need consent to see a doctor. It just depends, and as you mentioned, there are some exceptions regarding sexual health issues.
But generally speaking, the parent has access/can discuss basically everything regarding their child.
