What accounting issues does the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 address?
How will the provisions of this Act change the behavior of senior corporate executives and accounting professionals?
By requiring that CEO’s in effect sign off on the company’s financial reports (under penalty of jail time), it provides more transparency among publicly traded companies.
As a CPA, it’s a nightmare as the provisions required by US-based companies are, at best, difficult, time consuming, and have cost billions in additional labour.
Well intended law but with difficult standards to uphold.
