Is this a HIPAA Violation?
The other day I come upon an ambulance and a rescue truck along with police car. I, being a nosy person, went up to one of the firefighters standing by the rescue truck and asked what was going on. He then told me there was a middle aged male who was having chest pains and that they were probably going to take him to the hospital.
Now, I have some experiences in public safety and I have heard that even just giving out this type of information could potentially be a violation of HIPAA. I want to know what others think? Did the FF, by telling me the nature of the incident, violate HIPAA?
