Trust Hipaa

trust hipaa

im 14, had sex, too young i know, but can my doctor tell my mom?

im 14 and i had sex about 3 weeks ago. my mom thinks i did, and is saying she is going to bring me to the doctor, i heard that the docotor can only tell if my “cherry popped” but i also heard that it can break so easily, by things other then sex. i was just wondering if i do go to the doctor, can they tell my mom that i have had sex because i also heard that they cant because that would violate the hipaa law thing? but im not sure about that. i really need some help. please dont leave stupid answers saying im too young and that im stupid, because trust me i know and i regret it completly!

Can the doctor tell your mom? Yes an NO. Can you ask the doctor to keep it secret? Yes. Children under 18 [depending on the state] do not have FULL protection of the patient/doctor confidentiality law, with parents being the exception. You can ask your doctor to not tell however they are at liberty to reveal this information to your parent/guardian ONLY if it is an issue that causes serious health concerns.

Now as far as the doctor knowing whether or not you’re a virgin well they’ll find out if you tell them.
