Can a person who employs me as a subcontractor request and receive my medical information under HIPAA?
Two weeks ago a woman who subcontracts me as an instructor and videographer contacted my physician asking her for a note stating that I could no longer instruct and do video for her husband’s company. I know that an EMPLOYER can request information (no harm no foul) and I know that it is the provider who is at fault for providing the information. But SHE is not my employer! Any help would be appreciated!
uh….if you are working for her, she is your employer.
She can ask; they can say NO and ask you to give consent.
