Did i violated hipaa?
while working at a hospital i took a picture of the monitors because i thought i saw a ghost! 3 months later i got suspended because they said i violated hipaa law! i know i did a mistake and its ok for them to suspend me but can i get fired? in the picture i didnt know was a patient there, you cant see the patients face its too far to be able to see it.. but still i dont want to get fired!
BTW im just a security guard.. and i didnt give any type of information to any body..
most states at “at will” states, so they can fire you for any reason as long as it’s not discrimination. you violated their rule, so you got fired. i agree–seems like a warning or suspension would be ok if it’s the first time they had any issues with you.
