Is this a hipaa violation?
I was at the hospital to get some medical equipment. The admissions receptionist informed me that I have to pay a bill that was for my son. I have been paying on this bill and have checks to prove it. She said who the bill was for and she said it in front of other people. The bill had nothing to do with why I was there. Is this a hipaa violation?
I think it is more for a medical diagnosis….for example, if she had said something about the diagnosis, than I think that is a HIPAA violation. However, when you go to any medical establishment they have to give you a copy of their HIPAA policy and that policy will include the establishments’ contacts for any HIPAA issues. I think you should really write a letter and send it to that person. Even if it was not an blatant violation of HIPAA, it was rude and inappropriate.
